Lazar Markovic Swansea Deal Falls Through

The 23-year-old could end up stuck at Liverpool for the remainder of the season.

Lazar Markovic’s Liverpool career has not gone according to plan, and now it seems he may not even be able to find a loan home for the second half of the 2017-18 season—which would mean another half-season stuck in the stands.

Having only made a single U23 appearance this season and having never played a first team game under Jürgen Klopp, it’s clear Markovic has no future at Anfield. He must move on in order to even have a chance at resurrecting his career.

For a time, it looked like he would, with Wolfsburg and Swansea both eager to sign him. Wolfsburg, though, couldn’t agree a permanent deal with Liverpool and—if the move was to be a loan—so Liverpool looked to send him to Swansea.

Swansea, though, had other priorities and now do not have room for him. Meanwhile, the transfer window has already closed in Germany, meaning a move to Wolfsburg is off the table even if Liverpool were willing to reconsider it.

Liverpool are reportedly still trying to find a loan home for the Serbian winger, but as of now it looks as though he won’t be leaving Liverpool this month after all—not on a permanent deal and not even on loan.
