Swansea Reportedly Agree Markovic Deal with Liverpool

A loan deal has been agreed but it still isn’t certain Markovic will end up at Swansea.

According to a report this afternoon from Wales Online, Swansea have reached an agreement with Liverpool to loan Lazar Markovic for the remainder of the season after a potential permanent move to Wolfsburg fell through.

However, Markovic still might not end up at the club as Swansea have prioritised securing Andre Ayew from West Ham in an £18M deal, the final terms of which could impact their ability to take on Markovic.

If the Ayew deal does go through and leave room for them to pay Markovic’s loan fee and wages, they will then move ahead, at which point it would be up to Markovic to accept the move—which he would be expected to.

Still, there remains a distinct possibility the loan deal falls through, and that could leave Markovic stuck at Anfield for the remainder of the season with the German transfer window already closed.

That means there is now no chance of Markovic ending up at Wolfsburg, who would no longer be allowed to register the player. The German club, though, were considered Liverpool’s preferred destination for Markovic.

That’s because Wolfsburg were trying to negotiate a permanent deal—something that, despite earlier reports, Swansea weren’t interested in. When they couldn’t meet the £15M asking price, Swans again became an option.
