Liverpool may be forced to lower Sturridge asking price

Liverpool have yet to receive an offer for Daniel Sturridge and may have to lower their £15million asking price to encourage his suitors, Neil Jones of Goal reports.

Sturridge, who no longer figures in the plans of manager Jurgen Klopp, is highly likely to leave Anfield this summer.

The once-prolific striker was loaned to West Brom in January after struggling for game time in the first half of the season, and injury restricted him to just six appearances for the now-relegated Baggies.

Inter Milan and Newcastle were also interested in a temporary move for Sturridge at the turn of the year, but were put off by his £150,000 wages, and it is understood their interest in the player has now significantly cooled.

His six-figure salary, along with the club’s price tag, appears to be deterring the likes of Sevilla and Fenerbahce, who Jones says have expressed ‘tentative interest’, from making a formal offer.

Sturridge is about to enter the final year of his Liverpool contract, and so interested parties may seek to wait until he is available for free.

The Englishman himself understands the realities of his situation at Anfield but wants to wait for what he deems a suitable offer.

Elsewhere, it emerged on Tuesday that Danny Ings, another deputy to Roberto Firmino, will be allowed to leave, if he so desires, in his pursuit of first-team football.

The future of Divock Origi, who struggled on loan at Wolfsburg last season, will hinge upon how he performs over the course of Liverpool’s pre-season preparations.

Even with Sturridge and Ings headed for the exit door, the club are unlikely to invest in another number 9, with Rhian Brewster to be promoted to the first-team set-up when he recovers from injury.
