Liverpool’s momentum could carry on into the new Premier League season

Liverpool have a had a superb year under Jurgen Klopp. The Reds’ admirable showing in the Champions League won them a lot of hearts and minds this campaign and their solid 4th place finish in the Premier League, securing European football once again next season, sums up their steady progress overall under the German.

With a summer of undoubted transfer activity ahead, can Liverpool keep improving and mount more of a title push next campaign? Early signs, after the arrivals of Naby Keita from RB Leipzig and Fabinho from Monaco, suggest so.

Mo must not go

Alongside the summer acquisitions who have already joined and will undoubtedly be joining over the summer, key to Liverpool’s chances next season will be down to whether they can keep hold of star man and Anfield hero, Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian has been in phenomenal form in his first season back in England, scoring 44 goals across all competitions. It should come as no surprise then that the likes of Real Madrid have been linked with a move for him, alongside a few other sides with the financial clout to really tempt the club and the player into a departure.

Klopp has stated on numerous occasions that Salah is likely to stay, but should ‘Mo’ take his scintillating form into the World Cup and catch the eye once again, then Real could really step up their pursuit of him. As Liverpool have learnt in the past with the likes of Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho, if one of the big Spanish two come calling, it’s hard to fend them off.

A sprinkling of additional quality needed 

Keeping hold of Salah is one factor to potential success for the Reds, but supplementing their squad with a few quality additions will certainly take them up a much needed level also and catch-up with easily the best side in the league last season, Manchester City.

Alongside new-boys Keita and Fabinho, the likes of Jack Butland, Alisson, Jasper Cillessen, Hakim Ziyech, Mario Gotze, Thomas Lemar and Malcom have been mooted as potential targets. Reds supporters will be encouraged to hear the calibre of player they’re being linked to. With that in mind, it comes as no surprise to see the club currently second favourites to win the Premier League. A number of free bets offer great value at 5/1 (Bet365), although Manchester City are clearly the team to beat still after being priced at 4/6 (William Hill) to retain the league.

One key area in need of addressing, perhaps somewhat obviously if you watched the Champions League final, is a goalkeeper. Loris Karius, simply put, isn’t up to it. Any side striving to reach the top, like Liverpool are, need a reliable man between the sticks. Jack Butland or Alisson, two names linked with replacing Karius, would be certain upgrades on the young German stopper.

Time to peak

Liverpool’s progress under Klopp has been fairly slow and steady, with the Merseyside giants gradually cementing themselves as a top four club once again and their European showings improving since the former Dortmund manager came in. Of course, title rivals around them will also strengthen in the summer window, but Liverpool have a key ingredient under Klopp – momentum.

A top four finish, priced at 1/5 (SkyBet), is almost a certainty these days. Kicking on and going one better though, especially off the back of a season full of encouraging signs, could be the next step for this Liverpool team under Klopp’s guidance.

The future is bright at Anfield and after a successful summer window, it could be about to get even brighter.
