Heskey hails Klopp’s man-management

Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey says Jurgen Klopp’s ability to give players ‘a new lease of life’ sets him apart from his managerial rivals.

Klopp is a renowned man manager and has spoken several times about the importance of having close relationships with his players.

In an interview earlier this year, the German admitted that he has a so-called ‘helping syndrome’.

His approach is unique, but Heskey feels it is well-suited to modern footballers.

“I think players nowadays prefer the loving kind of manager, and he really knows how to get the best out of players being that way,” Heskey, who made more than 200 appearances in four seasons at Anfield, told Eurosport.

“Klopp seems to know how to do it better than other managers.”

The Englishman pointed to James Milner, who has earned widespread plaudits for recent performances, and skipper Jordan Henderson as the chief beneficiaries of Klopp’s style.

“[He has] the ability to extract as much as out of a player as possible,” he said.

“Look at James Milner now he’s been fantastic and I think Klopp has been a big part of that.

“It’s the same for Jordan Henderson too, who a few years ago would be going out the door, but they seem to have a new lease of life.”
