Reds boss on why Liverpool were “really interested” in Harvey Elliot

Jurgen Klopp says new signing Harvey Elliot “needs game time” as he settles in to life on Merseyside with the first team squad.

The 16-year-old’s time at Fulham came to an end last month when his youth contract expired, and had been on the radar of several top European sides since then.

However, he opted to sign for Liverpool, and his new manager was clearly delighted to have him when speaking after the 3-0 defeat to Napoli.

“I can say many positive things about the boy because we have signed him and he decided to join us when he could have gone pretty much anywhere,” Klopp said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

“He wanted to be part of Liverpool because of his talent.

“Now that he is here, let’s work with him. He needs game time, we have to see where he will get that.

“He is obviously a fine, fine footballer – that is the reason why we were really interested.”
