The former Liverpool manager reiterated his stance that he isn’t making a quick return, which shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who was paying attention.

When Jürgen Klopp announced that he would be departing Liverpool after nine years in charge, the German manager made it clear that he had become exhausted by the job and was determined to take an extended time away from coaching.

Not everyone, apparently, was listening. First, the United States courting Klopp to take over their national team following a disastrous Copa America. Then, Gareth Southgate stepped down from England and, predictably, there was plenty of Klopp talk.

Anyone who had been paying any attention whatsoever to his decision to end his time at Liverpool knew both openings had come far, far too early for Klopp to consider them—that neither would tempt him back. Now he’s reiterated as much.

“There is nothing at all in terms of jobs,” Klopp insisted when asked about his future and the possibility taking on the English National Team while speaking at the International Coaches Congress in Germany this week. “No club, no country.

“A few people must not have heard this part, so it would be the biggest loss of face in the history of football if I said now I’ll make an exception for you. I’m going to do some work but will that be to coach again? I would actually rule that out at the moment.

“Let’s see what it will look like in a few months. Nothing is going to happen at the moment. Maybe we talk about it again in a few months. I still want to work in football, help people with my experience. So let’s see what else there is for me.”

The real revelation, perhaps, is that at the moment while Klopp could see himself returning to the game, perhaps even early in 2025, for the time being at least the Liverpool legend doesn’t actually see a return to coaching as being in his future.

After his time at Liverpool, Klopp has also ruled out the possibility of managing another club in England. One would expect him to take a similar stance in Germany, at least as it relates to Bayern Munich, after managing at Mainz and Dortmund.
