Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister is looking forward to getting to work under new head coach Arne Slot.

When Liverpool head back to England following the final game of their pre-season tour of the United States on the weekend, the Reds’ internationals on holiday after this summer’s international tournaments will return to the fold.

For the likes Argentina star midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, though, it will be a return to a different Liverpool. One without manager Jürgen Klopp and with a new trainer in Arne Slot hard at work getting players up to speed with his system.

“It must not be easy at all to replace a coach like Jürgen who was there for almost nine years and at Liverpool is now a legend of the club,” Mac Allister said of the change. “But I think Arne has entered the club on the right foot.

“I had talks with him during Copa America. We talked a little about the club and what I thought. You can tell he’s a very good technician. And I talked with Marcos Senesi who played for him at Feyenoord and spoke very well of him.”

There’s plenty of hope around the new man in charge and a lot of optimistic noises coming out of the club, but at the end of the day what will matter is how well the players can translate that positivity to the pitch in the coming weeks.

With players like Mac Allister and fellow returning internationals Luis Diaz, Darwin Nuñez, Alisson Becker, Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konaté, and Virgil van Dijk back in the fold, though, there’s no reason to think this Liverpool side can’t shine.

“I think there is a lot of optimism about what this season is going to be for Liverpool,” he added. “A great manager like Jurgen has left us but we have a great group and believe the new coach can help us achieve a lot of things.”
