Rumour Mongering: Hoffenheim Enter the Fray for Sepp
The big red ginger looks set to leave Liverpool this summer.
According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Hoffenheim have held talks with Sepp van den Berg’s team, joining previously linked suitors such as Mainz 05, Stuttgart, and PSV Eindhoven.
Although Van den Berg has been named a standout performer in Arne Slot’s preseason workouts so far, he has also expressed a desire to leave Liverpool, and it’s understandable why. Sepp would probably be 4th or 5th in the centre-back pecking order if he remains here, while he would start at any of the clubs that are attempting to sign him, with PSV and Stuttgart also being able to offer him Champions League football this upcoming season.

Liverpool’s €20m (£16.8m) asking price for Van den Berg was previously thought to be on the higher side by Mainz, but with a long line of suitors and a potential bidding war forming, it seems like the Reds should be able to get the asking price they’ve set. PSV have an ace up their sleeve — Liverpool’s long-reported interest in their Belgian winger Johan Bakayoko. Should the Dutch side be open to a swap + cash deal for the 21-year-old attacker, that could swing things their way.
