Liverpool captain Van Dijk has a year left in his contract and there have been whispers of Saudi Pro League interest this summer.

While fans tend to turn their attention to potential new signings during the off-season, for Liverpool’s hierarchy the top priority this summer might instead be their three senior stars who are entering into the final year of their contracts at the club.

For superstar winger Mohamed Salah, homegrown right back Trent Alexander-Arnold, and captain Virgil van Dijk there is the looming threat of free agency in 2025—and in the case of 32-year-old Salah and 33-year-old Van Dijk age could be a complicating factor.

There have been reports contracts for the trio are a priority for sporting director Richard Hughes, but should the window close without their futures resolved all would be free to sign pre-contracts with clubs outside England as soon as January.

According to HITC, though, in the case of Van Dijk at least the priority is a new deal and committing his future to the Reds beyond the 2024-25 season. They also claim he has no interest in reciprocating rumoured Saudi Pro League interest.

While there have been no serious rumours about a Saudi move, there have been some whispers concerning potential interest in Van Dijk, goalkeeper Alisson Becker, and also Salah following unsuccessful attempts to woo him there last summer.

The 25-year-old Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, has been linked with Real Madrid this summer as his contract status has begun to grow into a concerning talking point for fans of the club. Resolution on all three fronts, then, would be welcome.
