Anfield to Honor Victims of Southport Tragedy
The stadium will join the rest of the city
The club have announced today that Anfield will join the wider Liverpool region in lighting up in pink to honor those killed and injured in the horrific attack in Southport on Monday.
In solidarity with the three young girls killed and many who remain in the hospital with injuries buildings across Merseyside will be lit in pink on August 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
The city of Southport is located just over 20 miles from Anfield, as the wider region and nation reel from the tragedy that saw a 17-year-old attack a Taylor Swift dance party for young children.
The club and the wider region hopes visual solidarity will serve to combat the riots that have sprung up in various areas as bad faith actors have spread misinformation and hate about the perpetrator’s idenity.
Liverpool FC have previously shown solidarity to those affected by the attack, leaving a note of support at the remembrance site and a minute of silence was observed before Wednesday’s pre-season friendly against Arsenal.
Our thoughts are with the victims and those affected by these events in Southport and beyond.
