Rumour Mongering: Sturridge Unlikely to Complete January Move to Inter Milan

Things aren’t looking good for the forward with deadline day fast approaching.

We’re three days away from the close of the January transfer window and there hasn’t been any concrete developments on Daniel Sturridge moving to a team where he’s likely to get a bit more first-team time. As it stands, a loan to Inter Milan held the most promise for the (trying-really-hard-to-return-to-being-an) England striker, with the Italian club reportedly agreeing to a €2million (£1.75m) loan fee initially with the promise of an additional €28.5m (£25m) for a permanent move in the summer.

Now, however, reports from Italy suggest that Inter are going off the idea of a move being done and dusted this month.

“Sturridge? I don’t exclude anything, but we made our evaluations,” Inter’s Sporting Director, Piero Ausilio, told Italian newspaper, Premium Sport. “We already have players for that role. If there are opportunities in the future then we could have some movement.”

“I do not want to remove his name from the list, but we think we already have the right players to achieve our goals.”

Liverpool have made it clear that they’re happy to part ways with the player, and that it’s Sturridge who’ll make any final decision on the next stage of his career. Sturridge himself has been reluctant to agree to Inter’s overtures so far — and has shown a preference for a move to Sevilla instead — so it’s not particularly surprising if the the Italian club’s interest has cooled as a result. But with Sevilla still not having put forward an offer, options are beginning to look scarce on the ground for Sturridge.

Sturridge was not included in this weekend’s 2-3 FA Cup defeat to West Brom, and while Klopp insisted there was nothing to read into that decision, a future at Liverpool still doesn’t look very bright for the player. For Sturridge’s sake, here’s hoping a decent offer comes through before Wednesday.
