Jurgen Klopp is looking to use Champions League final loss to inspire his side

Jurgen Klopp wants to use the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in Kiev as a way to inspire his side going forward.

Klopp believes the memories of the thrilling run in Europe’s elite competition will take his side to another level, although he admits he has not watched a replay of the final.

“I’ve not watched the full game again, only scenes, the answer is no,” Klopp said, as quoted by The Liverpool Echo.

“I’m not sure how it would be if I watched it back, maybe in a few situations I would get angry or upset, but it doesn’t hurt any more. It feels like months ago or even years ago.

“I can take something positive from it but I cannot do it alone. We were there altogether. We were really close.

“We did not make a lot of mistakes, before that and even in the game there were not a lot of mistakes but a few decisive ones. A lot of things happened in that game.

“It’s only history, it’s not that I go back and have a look at it with ‘this decision, this decision or we could have been more lucky in these kind of things’.

“It’s part of history already. Going there was unbelievably nice, it was a great journey, we all enjoyed it as a club and as individuals. It’s worth trying it again.”

Klopp believes his side became closer than ever during the Champions League run and that will leave the club in good stead going into the upcoming season.

“In the last two months of the season this club and this team came closer together because we had to fight like crazy,” said Klopp.

“What the boys did in those last two months was exceptional. It felt like we lost players. I think it was one week when we had three long-term injuries out of the blue, not because of intensity.

“We all know what happened with Ox (Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain), Emre (Can) had his back stop working, Adam (Lallana) again and these things. It was just very difficult to deal with.

“Then we had to fight with Chelsea for fourth place in the league while we were playing Roma and Man City in the Champions League. It felt just unfair for the boys.

“We had 12 senior players. Yes, we could have changed it a little bit more in defence which we tried to do, second line in midfield and offensive line we played who we had in that moment.

“How the boys did it was outstanding. That brought us really close together. That was a nice experience that something like that was possible.”

Liverpool will face Blackburn Rovers tonight in a pre-season friendly looking to find form ahead of the new season.
