Jurgen Klopp: “Who doubts Daniel Sturridge when he is fit? I don’t!”
Daniel Sturridge has looked very sharp in Liverpool’s pre-season thus far, and Jurgen Klopp was quick to praise the striker after Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in Charlotte.
Sturridge is competing with the likes of Divock Origi, Dominic Solanke and Danny Ings for a spot behind Roberto Firmino in the pecking order.
It was clear at times last season that Liverpool lacked another option if Firmino were not able to play, but Klopp likes what he has seen from Sturridge in the early parts of the pre-season.
“Daniel’s in very good shape, that’s true. He’s been part of pretty much all sessions in a very intense pre-season so far,” Klopp said, as quoted by The Liverpool Echo.
“Who doubts Daniel Sturridge when he is fit? I don’t! Outstanding player, hopefully he can stay fit and then the future is bright.

“He’s young enough, it’s not like he’s 30-something, he’s still in his 20s, so that’s good. He’s experienced as well, and has this kind of natural arrogance on the pitch which is good.
“If he tries something and it doesn’t come off, he is not out of the game for 10 minutes. He stays in the game, and it is good for us to have him around.
“The second half would have looked a lot different without Daniel leading the group in finding spaces and wanting the ball. It’s good. I’m fine with him, 100%.”
