Sheyi Ojo Looking To Impress In Preseason
The young winger returned to Melwood for preseason training hoping to force their way into Jürgen Klopp’s plans.
A major item on the wish list for Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool this summer is depth behind the vaunted attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané. The Dannys Ings and Sturridge currently at the club appear permacrocked, while the likes of Stoke City star Xherdan Shaqiri, Lyon’s Nabil Fekir and even Marco Asensio of Real Madrid have been mooted as desired targets.
One name that hasn’t come up often in public discussion is another current Red, stalled talent, Sheyi Ojo. The winger has returned to Melwood for preseason training after having spent the last campaign out of the eye of Liverpool supporters on loan with Fulham. Unfortunately however, the temporary spell away from Anfield did pan out as anyone at the club would’ve hoped, leaving the youngster with much to prove coming into training.
Although the tricky wide man did manage register two goals and four assists in 24 appearances for the London club, it was ultimately a stop-start season hampered by a persistent back injury that prevented anything resembling a rhythm from developing.
Nevertheless, the talented academy graduate is now feeling healthy after an extended period of rehab and is raring to show that he can contribute to the first team this upcoming campaign.
“It’s a really good feeling, I was delighted to be coming back and was looking forward to pre-season,” Ojo said, speaking to the club website.
“I’ve been working really hard during the break and I’ve been really excited about getting back to Liverpool and hopefully showing what I can do.
“I’m definitely in the best shape I’ve ever been and I feel like I’m as strong mentally as I’ve ever been, so I’m really excited about what’s to come this season.
“The main focus is to get fit, to get back into my rhythm and enjoy being back at Liverpool and hopefully do well in training and games.”
Still only 21 years old, Ojo is a talented player with the ability to play for a Premier League side. Whether he will get his chance under Klopp at Liverpool remains to be seen.
