James Milner Looking Forward to Brendan Rodgers vs. Steven Gerrard

After Liverpool finish against Leicester, a lot of fans—and James Milner—will be turning their attention to Celtic vs. Rangers.

For Liverpool fans the focus this weekend will, of course, be on the club’s league tie against Leicester City that kicks off Saturday’s Premier League slate. After that, though, more than a few might be turning their attention towards Scotland.

There, Rangers are taking on Celtic on Sunday in with the Liverpool connections obvious in the first Old Firm match of the season, and James Milner is picking Steven Gerrard and Rangers to best Brendan Rodgers and Celtic at the first time of asking.

“They are always good games to watch anyway but there is a bit of added spice this time with the two managers,” Liverpool’s veteran midfielder said of the tie that pits his former Liverpool manager against Liverpool’s last captain.

“It is going to be hard for Celtic to continue with the level of success they have had.The other teams are maybe sniffing a mini-crisis at Celtic. Losing two games is a crisis at Celtic [and] Rangers will maybe sense a chink in their armour.”

Celtic lost their second Premiership match of the season to Hearts and failed to advance from the third qualifying round of the Champions League against AEK Athens. They are now level with FK Suduva in their Europa League qualifier having drawn the home leg.

That means there’s a very real chance of them heading into the autumn out of Europe entirely and, if they don’t get a win against Rangers, as many as six points out of first in the Scottish league. Rangers, though, aren’t back to their best just yet.

Gerrard’s side sit just fourth in the league with a win and two draws. They do, however, look better positioned to advance to the Europa League group stages as they lead their qualification playoff 1-0 against Russia’s FC Ufa.
