Liverpool Players Pay Tribute to Injured Fan

Following the match in Dublin, the team paid special tribute to Sean Cox.

In a display meant to represent the club ethos of You’ll Never Walk Alone, Liverpool Football Club paid tribute to fan Sean Cox following their friendly against Napoli in Dublin. Cox was brutally attacked and left in critical condition just ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final match at Anfield against AS Roma.

The unfortunate act of malice left Sean Cox with severe head injuries that required surgery and included him being placed in a medically induced coma. Thankfully, updates to his health indicate that things are headed in a positive direction. Per a statement from the website of the electrical industry - Mr. Cox’s trade - noted that he has regained consciousness and that he is involved in rehabilitative treatments.

Cox himself is from Dublin and Jurgen Klopp made it a point to visit with the family while the team was in town. The post match tribute included a team photo and a short parade around the field in support of the stricken Reds fan.

The banner displayed was designed following the attack by Peter Carney - a man responsible for some of the most iconic banners to grace Anfield. The banner even made an appearance at the return leg in Rome a week following the attack, as can be seen in the image used for this article.

Sean Cox may have a long way to go yet to return to full health, but the journey will not have been made alone. Here’s hoping an expedited and complete recovery to Sean Cox and an end to acts of violence surrounding our most treasured game.
