Liverpool Reportedly Optimistic of New Sadio Mané Deal

Though talks have been slow going, the club believe a new deal will be signed.

Following Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino signing new deals and joining Virgil van Dijk as Liverpool’s highest-paid players on around £160k per week, the club’s attention turned to getting Sadio Mané on a similar new contract.

That a new deal hasn’t been signed by Mané, though, isn’t a cause for concern. At least not according to The Standard’s David Lynch, with the Liverpool-connected journalist claiming talks have been positive as are expectations.

Expectations that the 26-year-old will, before too much longer, put pen to paper on a new deal that will run through 2023 as Salah’s, Firmino’s, and Van Dijk’s do and that will pay the Senegalese winger a similar wage to that trio.

Of course, at the end of the day, no contract can keep a player around if he’s determined to depart the club, but helping to keep their top stars feeling as though they’re fully valued will be a key part of keeping this group together.

It will also help to protect the club should the unexpected happen, as with Philippe Coutinho, by improving their negotiating position—though this Liverpool side has begun to look like a destination rather than a stepping stone.

The next step is winning titles and trophies to confirm Liverpool’s return to the top echelon of European football and confirm their status as destination club. That and getting a new contract for Sadio Mané.
