Liverpool Reserve Joins Rochdale
Connor Randall will spend the next six months at Rochdale as the defender continues to look to establish himself.
It’s probably not accurate to refer to Connor Randall as a youngster or prospect any more, but however one labels him, the 22-year-old reserve defender is heading out on loan today, joining League One’s Rochdale in an attempt to improve his career prospects.
For a time, Randall was seen as a promising prospect, and in JĂ¼rgen Klopp’s first season at the club he was both handed a contract extension and made seven first team appearances in the 2015-16 season—three in the league and two in each domestic cup.
The next season, though, he saw action just once with the first team at Liverpool. He then spent the 2017-18 season on loan with Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Premiership, making 27 total appearances for them but failing to attract any long-term interest.
With Rochdale the goal will again be to convince a club at that level—the top half of League One or bottom half of the Championship— he can be a valuable player and to find himself a new permanent home. If he manages that, the loan will have been a success.
