Nabil Fekir Blames Liverpool Over Failed Move

Ever since the £53 million deal for Nabil Fekir was mysteriously scrapped at the last minute, things have been quiet, at least from the Liverpool side of things.

However, this hasn’t stopped a steady stream of quotes coming out of Lyon’s camp. Club president Jean-Michel Aulas basically hasn’t shut up about the not-a-move, and this week Lyon’s manager Bruno Genesio jumped into The Battle to Keep the Story Alive. Not to be outdone, the player himself now has something to say about it.

“I heard a lot of things,” Fekir said in an interview. “The real reason? Only Liverpool know.

”These things happen, it’s just how it is. We have to move on, it’s well in the past now.

”I have totally come to terms with the failed transfer to Liverpool.”

He’s come to terms and we can move on. That means no more Fekir stories, right? Please?

I doubt things are truly this mysterious. Liverpool were ready to completely the move, even going as far as conducting a first interview and photographing the player in a Liverpool kit, upon the successful completion of a medical. All signs point to the medical not being successful, with some reporters at the time claiming the club sought a second opinion after the first raised serious concerns over Fekir’s knee.

These statements, among others from the Lyon camp, are likely an attempt to muddy the waters about any potential medical issues. The club still want the payday, and Fekir still would like a chance to prove himself at a bigger club (along with the payday, of course).

For now, it appears that Fekir will remain at Lyon, at least until the January transfer window, if not beyond. The player made his first appearance for the club since lifting the World Cup last month, coming on as a late substitute in a 2-0 win over Strasbourg.
