Adam Lallana expected to be fit to face Everton

Jurgen Klopp is expected to be able to call on Adam Lallana for the Merseyside Derby on Sunday as the Englishman makes a return from a minor muscle injury.

Lallana suffered the injury before the international break and has been unable to turn out for the Reds ever since but with Everton travelling to Anfield on Sunday, Klopp is expected to be able to call upon the 29-year-old’s services.

The London Evening Standard’s David Lynch reports that Lallana will be available for selection and with Jordan Henderson out with a one-match suspension after being sent off against Watford, the former Southampton man will at the very least find himself on the bench.

On the whole, Klopp is unsure about who will be fit to play at Anfield on Sunday after a couple of his players picked up knocks during Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat at the Parc de Princes on Wednesday.

He told reporters at his press conference: “The squad situation, I am not 100 per cent sure at the moment.

“It was quite an intense game, we had a lot of knocks and we have to see. It’s good that we have this one day more, if it was Wednesday-Saturday that would be really difficult.”

On whether the player called upon to replace Henderson will be able to handle an intense Merseyside Derby, the manager replied: “Yes, absolutely. We had the whole week together and so, most of the time, the players talk to each other, so they all know about it. We have to prove it on Sunday.”
