Klopp and Van Dijk: Napoli result in Liverpool’s hands

Jurgen Klopp has reminded his squad that their Champions League destiny lies in their hands as they prepare to welcome Napoli to Anfield tomorrow night.

Liverpool cannot afford to lose after a disastrous run of away matches in this season’s European campaign, though a 1-0 victory or a win by at least two clear goals would suffice.

And Klopp has called on his players to produce the sort of performance such nights at Anfield were made for.

“We caused the situation, but we still have the chance to go through and that is pretty special,” said Klopp, according to BBC Sport. “I’m really looking forward to it.

“We knew after the Napoli game [in the second round of games] it was not good and Belgrade was not any better.

“So far at home we have been good and we need to be even better on Tuesday. I told the boys if nothing special happens with a referee decision we will get what we deserve.”

Centre-back Virgil van Dijk also weighed-in on tomorrow night’s clash.

“We want to show we belong in the Champions League,” said the Dutchman.

“We are doing very well in the league and we can show it in the Champions League. It’s our own fault we are in this position but we have a way of getting out of it.”
