Guardiola happy to have four competitions to contend with as City chase Liverpool

Pep Guardiola

Manchester City are still in every single competition available and Pep Guardiola refuses to place his focus on the Premier League as he and his side look to chase down Liverpool’s four point lead at the top of the table.

A midweek exit from the FA Cup has given the media a chance to represent Liverpool’s defeat to Man City as more damaging than it actually is, claiming the Reds are going through a crisis and that their season is hanging in the balance.

If you told Jurgen Klopp that the worst things will get all season is a one-off defeat to Manchester City immediately followed up by an FA Cup exit at the hands of Wolves, the German would bite your hand right off.

When asked if he’s happy to still be in four competitions, Guardiola said: “I prefer it, definitely. I like to be in the four competitions as far as possible. When Wigan put us out of the FA Cup last season I was sad.

“I take the cups seriously. Against Rotherham we played with nine players who didn’t play against Liverpool and the nine were a good selection.

“Kevin had 70 minutes at full intensity against Rotherham and will try to play a little longer [against Burton].

“If everyone is fit we can cope. The problem is if you have 10 injured players — it’s almost impossible. If we had just one competition to play in, I could play with the same 11 or same 12 [every week]. Now everyone is involved.”
