Daniel Sturridge on player who’s “been missed” at Anfield

Daniel Sturridge believes Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s long-waited return to training has been a massive encouragement to the rest of the Liverpool squad at Melwood.

The attacking midfielder picked up a knee injury during last season’s Champions League semi-final against Roma at Anfield and was initially ruled out for the entire 2018/19 season.

But with a first competitive appearance with the Under-23s scheduled for tonight, the 25-year-old is well on the way to a first team comeback, and fellow England international Sturridge couldn’t be more delighted.

“He’s been missed,” Sturridge said, as quoted by LiverpoolFC.com. “I love that guy!

“He’s been through a big injury, which is difficult to return from. But it’s his dedication, his hardwork that he has put in on the training pitch.

“The banter he brings to the boys, to the group, the lads, I love being around him, so it’s great to see him back out there and to see him so sharp as well.

“He’s been really sharp out there and he doesn’t seem as though he has been injured. It’s great to have him back.”
