Henderson Trains While Lovren Sits Out Ahead of Porto Second Leg

Jordan Henderson looks to be fit to face Porto but Dejan Lovren will miss Wednesday’s match.

The good news is that, despite limping off the pitch in the second half against Chelsea on Sunday, Jordan Henderson is expected to be fit for tomorrow’s Champions League quarter final second leg against FC Porto.

Any doubts appear to have been put to rest with the player’s participation in training today before the team flew out to Portugal—though, fit or not, it might be expected Henderson will be rotated to the bench on Wednesday.

The bad news, though, is that while Henderson took part in training today, Dejan Lovren did not, meaning that a second start since his return from injury appears unlikely and Jürgen Klopp’s defensive options remain limited.

Lovren started against Porto last week and most expected he would play on Wednesday, but illness means he instead remains in Liverpool along with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after the recovering midfielder also didn’t train.

However, Joe Gomez, though still working his way back from his own injury, travelled with the rest of the team to Portugal today. He is expected to be on the bench, which will mean another start for Virgil van Dijk and Joël Matip.

Liverpool head into the second leg of their Champions League tie with a 2-0 advantage and knowing that with Porto not having scored an away goal, if Liverpool do get one it will mean Porto need at least four to advance.
