Klopp Gives Henderson Fitness Update
The captain went off with injury against Chelsea.
Jordan Henderson, after putting in an excellent performance against Chelsea on Sunday, went off injured in the 77th minute. He looked to be in considerable pain when it first happened, clutching his ankle. However, he walked off of the pitch on his own and seemed mostly fine.
We hoped at the time he came off for James Milner as a precaution, and after the game manager Jürgen Klopp confirmed that.
“He got a knock on his ankle, that’s pretty much all,” Klopp said post-match. “He was fine after the game. A bit of pain, no problem, [he] didn’t twist [it]. It’s only painful, not a problem.”
In a day that brought up lots of painful memories from 2013-14, Jordan Henderson potentially missing the end of the season was another déjà vu avoided.
The next game Liverpool play will be against FC Porto. The Reds are heading to Portugal already 2-0 up in the tie, so it’s possible that Henderson will be given a rest for that match so that he’s ready to take on Cardiff City on Easter Sunday.
