The Liverpool manager is proud of his team’s performance in the 3-0 defeat to Barcelona.
That deflated feeling may linger around for awhile. Conceding goals to Barcelona at the Nou Camp was always a possibility given the Lionel Messi factor, but 3-0 is a tough scoreline to see. Liverpool’s chances of progressing to the Champions League final are too thin to be viewed with the naked eye but the second leg at Anfield does give Jürgen Klopp’s team an opportunity to drum up a miracle.
There’s certainly plenty of reason for Liverpool to run out onto the Anfield pitch with their heads held high for the next fixture. The Reds were beaten well by Barcelona but the scoreline hides the performance by Liverpool in Spain on Wednesday night. Klopp was full of praise for his team’s work after the match.
“What did I say to them after the game? I said that I am really proud of them, that I liked a lot of things about the game,” said Klopp.
The loss will resonate but Klopp claims he’ll harness loads of inspiration from the defeat.
“No one will be interested but a few football nerds because it is about the result and we lost 3-0 but I can work really good with this game,” Klopp said.
“I will use it forever to show the boys what is possible. It was a brave performance, very passionate, very lively.
“In a lot of moments creative, in a lot of moments direct, everyone was on their toes, I liked the game but it doesn’t really help.
“I am not sure if we deserved a lot more than we got. We played really good football game, but in the end they scored three and we didn’t score and we just need to accept that.”
Liverpool will move on and continue to challenge for all the top honors for many future seasons. Klopp is a great manager for the club. Our team has some incredible players in its ranks and they all appear to be happy playing football on Merseyside.
It was a big loss to Barcelona but Klopp is backing his team’s performance at the Nou Camp, knowing his players were excellent at times and dominant in possession, and it is good.
“As a manager, what I judge on is how we played. I am completely happy and proud of the boys, I think it was the best Champions League game we played not only this year but last year as well. Against a side like this, playing this kind of football I was completely happy.”
