The Egyptian winger was named the winner after a fantastic month
He may not have been included in this season’s PFA Team of the Year or even been on the shortlist for the Player of the Year but Mohamed Salah’s form has gone from strength to strength this season and he has been named the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player for April, beating out Everton’s Lucas Digne, Newcastle’s Ayoze Perez, Fulham’s Sergio Rico (on loan from Sevilla FC) Leicester’s Jamie Vardy and Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva.
Mo Salah had a fantastic run in April, scoring 4 goals in 4 appearances. He kicked things off against Southampton scoring in the 80th minute at St. Mary’s in a match which ended, Southampton 0 - 5 Liverpool. On the 14th of April Mo was a it again scoring in the 53rd minute against Chelsea in a match the Reds won by 2 goals to nil. And finally, Mo scored a brace against Huddersfield at Anfield on 26 April in the 1st minute of injury time after the first half and again at 83 minutes in.
Mohamed Salah continued his fine form into the month of May and scored against Newcastle this past Saturday in the 28th minute but was stretchered off with 20 minutes left in the game after suffering a head injury. Jürgen Klopp confirmed that the Egyptian King would not feature against Barcelona in the Reds second leg fixture at Anfield on Tuesday, saying, ‘It’s a concussion for Salah so that means he would not even be allowed to play. That’s it, that’s all. He feels OK, but it is not good enough from a medical point of view, that’s all. He is desperate and everything, but we cannot do it. That’s it.’
Mo is expected to return to full-time action by the weekend and is expected to feature in Liverpool’s final Premier League fixture of the season against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Hopefully he can add to his tally of 22 Premier League goals which has him at the top of the goalscorers at this stage and clinch the Golden Boot for the second season in a row.
Up the Mighty Reds!
