Reds boss rules out summer move for Italy striker

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he will not make a move for Lorenzo Insigne this summer.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with the Italian striker in recent months, with Daniel Sturridge set to leave and Divock Origi’s future uncertain.

However, the manager has ruled out a transfer push for the Napoli star.

“We will not sign Lorenzo Insigne. He’s a very good player, but he has a long-term contract at Napoli and we will not even try it,” Klopp said.

“Transfers are not there to excite the people with a new player, the job is to improve the team and there are different ways.

“Training is the best way to do it, but if you have to sign someone then you sign them.

“The team is pretty well balanced. Our plans are not for the public, but will it be the biggest transfer window of Liverpool? No, probably not.

“But I think you would have been surprised if I said ‘Yes, we will sell them all if they don’t do it (win the title)’.

“Our eyes are always open, we always look, but nothing to say in the moment.”

Insigne himself also confirmed that he’s planning to sign a new contract with Napoli, effectively closing the door on a move away this summer.

“Renewal? I’m waiting for the president,” Insigne said.

“For my part there’s maximum availability. We both want to move forward together. I hope that the signing of the contract will come soon.

“It was important to be clear about going ahead together. There has been misunderstanding but now there is the desire to continue united.”
