£60million midfielder “complimented” by Liverpool transfer speculation

Leicester City midfielder James Maddison has admitted that it’s “a compliment” to be linked with clubs like Liverpool but insists he won’t get distracted by transfer speculation this summer, according to talkSPORT.

The 22-year-old, who scored seven goals and notched as many assists in the league last season, has been linked with a £60million move to a number of top Premier League sides in the current transfer window, including the Reds.

However, the Foxes star is focused solely on helping Leicester succeed this coming season.

“No, you have just got to ignore that and take it all in your stride,” he said, when asked if speculation is distracting.

“As a 17-year-old boy, I’d started five games for Coventry and saw on my phone that I was being linked with Tottenham and Liverpool.

“With transfer talk, you need to take it as a compliment that people are even talking about you, it won’t distract me.”

Maddison has been widely tipped to join Manchester United this summer, but talkSPORT host Adrian Durham thinks such a move would be a “step backwards.”

“It would be a ‘head’s gone’ if he went,” said Durham.

“He should stay. Brendan Rodgers has joined the club [Leicester] and they’re looking up. There are some positive things happening and a lot of it is being based on James Maddison.

“You go to Manchester United and the recent history says you’re going to flatten out as a footballer.

“You’re not going to get better. No footballers are getting better at Manchester United, with the possible exception of Marcus Rashford.

“Leicester don’t need the money. The move wouldn’t be good for him.

“Every move he’s made so far has been a step up – this one would either be a step sideways or a step backwards.”
