Klopp Talk: It Looks like Larouci Was Lucky

The 18-year-old was stretchered off during the friendly against Sevilla, but the boss is hopeful the injury is not serious.

The Reds suffered their second defeat in their pre-season tour of the United States, but all attention was on 18-year-old Red Yasser Larouci, who was stretchered off in the 80th minute after a truly awful tackle by Sevilla’s Joris Gnagnon. Gnagnon was correctly shown a red card for his attempt to remove one of Larouci’s limbs during a friendly, and Larouci was taken off the field immediately.

Larouci will require further assessment per the club’s website, but Klopp is tentatively hopeful about the extent of his injuries.

“[It’s] much too early in the season to create headlines with saying the things I think about the situation,” Klopp said during the post-match conference. “Let me say how the situation is with Yasser; it looks like he was lucky but, of course, how it always is with these things we have to wait a little bit. He couldn’t keep on playing, so that’s the first not-so-good sign but in the dressing room it was OK, similar how it looks to Harry Wilson.

“Harry got a knock on his jaw and a finger in his eye, so not too cool. He should be OK as well but couldn’t carry on as well. That’s the situation.”

“I don’t know 100 per cent,” Klopp added. “It looks like he was lucky but I only spoke quickly to the doc and that’s what he said, but we have to see.”

It goes without saying that tackles like the one we saw from Gnagnon have no place in games, friendlies or not, and it looks like Gnagnon is in full agreement on that:

Hopefully, the club’s doctors have a correct read on things and we see Larouci back on his feet and in practice soon.
