Origi explains why youthful Reds squad are “hungry” for more silverware

Divock Origi says Liverpool’s young squad are hungrier than ever for more silverware.

The Belgian forward helped his side win the Champions League final last month with a goal off the bench, following on from a crucial brace against Barcelona at Anfield in the semis.

And the 24-year-old is confident that a youthful Reds squad can continue to thrive going forward under Jurgen Klopp.

“There has been a very positive energy since we reported back for pre-season,” Origi said. “It is a good energy to work in.

“There’s a sense of being proud of what we achieved but a hunger too.

“I am still young and we are still a young group. I want to use this to make the next step and continue to be successful because I really believe that we have everything here to do that.

“Even coming into Melwood, with all the people that work here, you feel there is something special going on here.

“It’s certainly something we all hope to make happen. I am somebody who always sets goals and wants to go further and that is the same for everyone as a team as well as a club.

“Winning major honours is one of the main values of the club. We will fight and by doing that I think we have a good chance of positive things happening again in the future.”

On his rapport with Klopp, he added: “The manager and I have a good relationship. Everyone knows how good a coach he is but before that he is a good man.

“He pushes us as a team and it’s important for me to have somebody who knows football and knows how to speak with players and help them perform to their best.”
