The German opens up about his team philosophy after Arsenal win

The start of the season has been breathtakingly fun: not just because we’re top of the table, but because every single goal conceded has felt a bit hard on all our lungs. The Reds turnout against Arsenal felt like a culmination of everything we’d been building towards, and the boss definitely agrees.

“The tempo we put from the beginning was incredible, really incredible,” Klopp said after the match. “There was no time to breathe. The opponent of the quality of Arsenal, you have to break somehow: break them physically.”

When asked about the few flaws in the Reds’ game, the boss was equally forthcoming.

“The problem was our movements in the box were not clear enough,” said Klopp. “That’s why we maybe couldn’t create enough chaos in the box, but with 80% of the game I am completely happy.”

The system that Klopp has built is obviously superior to what Arsenal offered up, but the thing that has consistently had Liverpool fans at the edges of their seats (and every other teams’ fans just that much more heartsick) is how much fun this team is. Part of what makes the team such a joy to watch is how much preparation has gone into making the system look effortless.

“We are well prepared,” Klopp added. “We use every second of pre-season to be ready. The intention was to be us. Just be us.”
