Liverpool Tilt Against Manchester City Rescheduled

One of Liverpool’s big dates on the calendar has been adjusted.

Liverpool FC are atop the Premier League table after a mere 5 matches. That they are up there is great. That they are up there with a 5 point cushion is even better. That there is still so much more season left to go and not, say, one final match left, is not ideal.

Still, it’s a fortunate situation especially given that Liverpool’s main rival for the Premier League crown is current champs and absolute juggernaut, Manchester City. Liverpool being spotted five points at this point in the season is important and I know all Liverpool fans would much rather this scenario than things be reversed. But most fans would also recognize that the matchups against City are likely going to be the real decider.

Which is why many fans likely had November 9th on the calendar scheduled as it would be the first meeting between the two title favorites in this season. There is news today, however, that the match is going to be moved in order to accommodate TV, with the match now taking place on Sunday at the 11:30am ET time slot.

This makes it essentially the prime match of the weekend which makes sense because, for neutrals, this has got to be the prime match of the first half. Of course, it could play out to be a rather boring stalemate - though, knowing both coaches and squads, I’d very much not bet on that outcome - but seeing two squads at the height of their powers and with such talent on either side as well as along the touchline would easily mark this as a pre-season match to watch.

I mean, you’re talking about Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil Van Dijk against Sergio Aguero, Kevin de Bruyne, and Raheem Sterling. It’s Jurgen Klopp versus Pep Guardiola. It’s the Beatles versus [checks notes] Oasis. This is a marquee matchup.

As such, moving it from the clump of matches in the middle of the Saturday and giving it its own space on Sunday allows this hotly anticipated match the appropriate air it deserves. Here’s hoping Klopp and Company can provide Reds the world over something to celebrate while padding their cushion at the top of the table.
