Arsene Wenger tips Sadio Mane for Ballon d'Or

Arsene Wenger was asked if he would vote for any Liverpool players to win the Ballon d’Or and said Sadio Mane is deserving of ‘huge credit.’

Question: “If you had to vote for somebody now, would you, perhaps, go for one of the Liverpool players? And from what you have been saying, maybe Sadio Mane?”

Wenger: “Mane is an outstanding character, yes I would say (he deserves to win the award) because he is a fighter and he’s efficient. He’s not scared of anybody. At the moment you could say he deserves the huge credit.”

The Senegal attacker has risen to the fore since the start of 2019 after scoring 11 goals in 13 games to keep Liverpool’s Premier League title aspirations alive almost singlehandedly.

It speaks volumes that Liverpool have four players in Mane, Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker that all deserve a place in the Ballon d’Or Top Five.

Jurgen Klopp has built a side which he has called in the past a group of ‘mentality monsters’ but that label ignores the overwhelming amount of talent in the Reds’ squad.

The fact that the German has Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the bench and still has a midfield that functions at a high level is demonstrative of the quality that exists at Anfield.
