Everton Will Reportedly Not Sack Marco Silva Before Liverpool Match

The embattled manager remains in charge—but the future looks bleak for both Silva and the Blues.

Everton are in a bad way, in the midst of a disastrous run of form with the latest blow a crushing Leicester City winner scored deep into stoppage time on Sunday afternoon and with rumours of manager Marco Silva’s imminent demise everywhere.

They also know that a loss on Wednesday against local rivals Liverpool could, depending on how results go elsewhere, leave them adrift in the relegation zone. However, reports today have Silva surviving for at least long enough to face the Reds.

Sky report that Silva oversaw training today and that Everton have let it be known that the manager will be available for his usual media duties on Tuesday afternoon ahead of Wednesday’s mid-week Premier League clash under the lights at Anfield.

How long he will remain in charge, though, is anyone’s guess, as unless he can pull off a miraculous result or three, it’s hard to see Everton’s position improving between now and the end of the calendar year given their quite difficult schedule.

Having lost to Norwich and suffered that most recent stoppage time loss to Leicester City, Everton now face a gauntlet made up of Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal—plus a League Cup rematch with Leicester—before Christmas.

A pair of games against Burnley and Newcastle appear easier by comparison, though both opponents currently look far better than Everton do—and following those two matches the Blues get to face Manchester City on New Year’s Day.
