Carlo Ancelotti outlines what Everton need to be to defeat Liverpool
Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti believes his side has to be “perfect” to defeat Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the FA Cup at Anfield today.
The Reds have dominated the Merseyside derby for a number of years, especially at Anfield. The Toffees have not won an away derby since 1999.
However, today is arguably Everton’s best chance, as Liverpool are expected to rest a number of key players.
Klopp currently only has 12 senior players fit, as injuries have taken a toll. With that being the case, Liverpool are expected to field a weakened team, as the Premier League is clearly the focus.
Despite Klopp likely to make changes, Ancelotti believes his side has to be “perfect” to come away with a victory.
“To beat them your game has to be complete,” Ancelotti told the media.

“We want to have the possibility to play our football.
“At Napoli we were able to do a great performance because to beat Liverpool, a normal performance is not enough.
“Everything has to be perfect. You must work hard, sacrifice and show intensity.”
All the pressure is on Everton today, as Liverpool are likely to make changes. As big as the derby is, keeping players fit for the Premier League title race is far more important. The Reds possess a 13-point lead at the top of the table with a game in hand.
Liverpool’s January signing Takumi Minamino is likely to make his debut today, which will no doubt bring excitement to the Anfield faithful.
Ancelotti will fancy his chances today, as he did defeat Liverpool 2-0 in the Champions League earlier this season when he was still in charge of Napoli, which he mentioned to the media. Again, the pressure is on the Toffees to deliver today.
