Update on Gini Wijnaldum’s Liverpool future
Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum will not be departing Anfield anytime soon despite suggestions he might, according to Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol.
It was reported by David Ornstein from The Athletic that Wijnaldum could be departing Anfield come the end of the season, as the Dutchman only has 18 months left on his current contract. The report stated that Wijnaldum has had interest from clubs across Spain and Italy.
Ornstein further said that Liverpool would like to keep Wijnaldum beyond the end of the season and would risk losing him on a free in the summer of 2021. But, if a suitable offer came to the table, Liverpool would be open to selling Wijnaldum come the end of this campaign to receive a transfer fee.
This report has been rubbished, however, by Solhekol, who claims that Wijnaldum is going absolutely nowhere.

Georginio Wijnaldum is very happy at Liverpool. Would like to stay as long as possible. No panic about contract running out in 18 months. Plans in the pipeline about talks over new deal. Fully focused on helping Liverpool win the title. Believes he's at best club in the world

The original report in The Athletic did appear to be a tad strange. Wijnaldum is a regular in Jurgen Klopp’s side, meaning he has absolutely no reason to depart Anfield.
Wijnaldum is also winning trophies, which is why you play football. Any move away from Liverpool would no doubt be a step down, as the club is in such a strong position right now.
