Liverpool Women Sign Center-back Meikayla Moore
The Reds have bolstered their defensive ranks with the New Zealand international, who spent the last three seasons in the Bundesliga
With the FA Women’s Championship season set to kick off next weekend, Vicky Jepson and company have decided to bolster their defense. The club announced the signing of Meikayla Moore to help fill in at center-back in a fairly thin roster.
“This is an area we needed to add depth to and she has a really high potential ceiling,” said Liverpool manager, Vicky Jepson. “It’s an exciting project for us to help her achieve her goals and she will bring the right qualities and values for us in our next chapter.”
Meikayla Moore is a 24 year old hailing from New Zealand. She has amassed 40 senior team caps already, and was named to the 23 player roster ahead of the 2019 Women’s World Cup before getting injured. She has spent the last three years playing in the Bundesliga, spending the last two seasons with MSV Duisburg after staring her career in Germany with FC Koln.
“I’m really ecstatic to finally be here. The first few days have gone as well as anyone could have hoped,” said Moore.
“When I started talks with Vicky [Jepson] and Emma [Humphries], I’m at a time in my career where I needed a new adventure and a new opportunity and I’m thankful that they were willing to give that to me.”
Liverpool’s manager, Vicky Jepson seemed quite chuffed at the signing.
“We wanted to find a center-half who had age on her side but with experience at a top-flight level,” said the manager.
“Obviously Meikayla has that from her time in Germany but also from her considerable international experience. We spoke with her international coach, who gave her an incredible reference.”
It should be noted that Liverpool may have had some insider information on the scouting. First team coach Emma Humphries is also a Kiwi, and spent time as the women’s national development manager.
Moore will wear the number 15 shirt for Liverpool as they kick off their season against Durham next Sunday. For those interested in watching, the match has been chosen for live coverage on the FA Player.
