The Reds added a new assistant manager, team physician, and their first ever sports psychologist

Vicky Jepson announced today that the Liverpool Women’s team would be making several additions to their backroom staff, while two of the current staff would be moving on. It was bittersweet news for Jepson, who announced that first-team assistant manager Emma Humphries would be moving with her family to Canada over the winter break. Humphries has been Jepson’s second in command since the 2018-19 season.

“The team and I would like to thank Emma for her time at the club. I will certainly miss Em around our environment,” said Jepson.

“We all wish her, Bev and little Jack the very best of luck with their new chapter in Canada - we will be watching and supporting from afar.”

Amber Whiteley, who has served as the U21 head coach and technical director at the LFC Women Regional Talent Club, will step into the Assistant Manager role. Whitely will have several familiar faces to work with, as academy products Amy Rodgers and Lucy Parry have made the jump to the first team.

“Amber has already settled in very well with the squad and is showing her qualities as a coach,” said Jepson of her new second in command.

The Reds will also undergo a change in the sports medicine department. Dr. Leon Creaney will be stepping into the role of team physician previously held by Dr. Phil Clelland. Dr. Creaney comes in with a wealth of experience working with top tier athletes. He has served as the team physician for the World University Games in 2007. He has also more recently been a team physician for British Athletics, working with athletes from senior and paralympics teams.

The final addition is Dr Francesca (Fran) Champ, the team’s first performance psychologist. Dr. Champ has been working with players and teams from youth the senior level, and has also been working with national level track and field athletes. Dr. Champ has had her work recognized an ‘Excellence in Football Research Award’ from the European Congress of Sports Science in Vienna.

Jepson feels the addition of Dr. Fran Champ will provide a big benefit to her players, and help give her team and edge.

“The psychology element is vital for professional athletes, so having Dr Fran onboard as a regular sports psychologist is a huge advantage for us in being able to support the team, either as individuals or collectively.”

Overall, Liverpool boss, Vicky Jepson, is quite excited about the new additions.

“I see this as a big positive step forwards for our club. Their appointments help strengthen the team behind the team and ultimately help ensure our players have the best support possible daily.”
