Start your week off right with some encouraging van Dijk footage.

Feeling down? Dealing with those pre-Christmas, post-pandemic blues? Well then, here’s something that should cheer you up. The official site has released a one-minute video of Virgil van Dijk back in training and looking good as he continues to recover from his knee surgery.

Liverpool lost their best player in mid-October when Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford lost his mind and put in a dangerous tackle. But the best players can’t be kept down for long.

You can watch the video here. It’s appropriately dramatic, with lots of close-ups and slow-mo, as befits the occasion of watching our lucky charm work himself back to fitness.

As expected, his every move was being closely monitored by a member of the medical staff. He looked exhausted by the end of the short clip, but he still manages to send the camera a cheeky wink as he sits on the training table.

Aside from watching the Reds crush a team 4-0, seeing van Dijk looking strong and determined to get back to work is the best news a Liverpool fan could get. The defender is still months away from being ready to take the pitch and most likely won’t return until next season.

However, that doesn’t mean that we can’t milk a bit of joy out of this moment.
