James Milner on “Incredible” Harvey Elliott’s Work to Recover From Injury
The young Liverpool star has impressed Milner with how he has approached recovery work for his injured ankle.
Over the first weeks of the season, Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott appeared to have fully established himself as a first team regular at just 18 years of age. Then, injury struck, and not just injury but potentially season ending injury.
Following scans and surgery, though, Elliott’s injured ankle was judged to not be quite as badly injured as feared. A return early in 2022 would be possible. Now, he’s working towards just that and teammate James Milner is impressed.
“He’s been so positive from the start,” Milner said of his injured young teammate. “as soon as it happened, the things he was saying, he talks like he’s been through it all before and he’s a 30-odd-year-old player. He’s incredible.
“He’s got a great mindset, he’s done all his work, he’s progressing really well. Not too far off getting rid of the crutches, I think, which is fantastic. You just need to keep that phone out of his hands—so I think it’s good when he’s on his crutches!
“But he’s working really hard and that’s the thing that people don’t see. It’s so boring and would be easy not to do, but that’s the hard work that gives you the basis to push on through. He’s doing really well and that’s great to see.”
While he’s still in the early stages of his recovery, if everything goes to plan it’s possible that Elliott could be back training with his teammates at some point in December and, with a little bit of luck, could be playing again by the new year.
