Liverpool’s new head coach says he’s not expecting much activity on deadline day.

Following Liverpool’s dash to complete the surprise £10M signing of Federico Chiesa on Thursday, transfer deadline day has started off quietly for the Reds with little by way of even speculative chatter about potential last-minute deals.

However, with many seeing a signing for the six and, potentially, another for defensive depth as being higher priorities than bringing in a flexible forward there will be some fans holding out hope until the bitter end. Head coach Arne Slot, though, is here to tamp down any expectations.

“I’m not expecting anything,” said the straight-talking Dutch trainer when asked directly about anything being in the work for deadline day. “But again, it’s no different to all the days before—if we see an opportunity, we could act. But I’m not expecting anything.”

FC Porto defensive midfielder Alan Varela and Olympiacos up and comer Santiago Hezze were both tenuously linked—mainly due to eager fans tracking planes on social media—following the signing of Chiesa but it currently appears neither is actually a final day target for the Reds.
