Liverpool Goalkeeper Jaroš “Over the Moon” Following Senior Debut
Third choice Liverpool goalkeeper Vítězslav Jaroš was handed his first start in Wednesday’s 3-2 League Cup victory over Brighton.
With Caoimhin Kelleher needed to play regularly in the Premier League and Champions League for Liverpool following the injury to Alisson Becker, Wednesday’s League Cup tie against Brighton saw a debut for Liverpool’s third choice in goal.
Twenty-three year old Vítězslav Jaroš was handed the start by manager Arne Slot, and despite conceding twice acquitted he himself well, with the goalkeeper making five stops and facing no criticism for the two goals conceded on the night.
“I’m really happy that I could help the team like this in a tough game against Brighton away,” Jaroš said once the 3-2 victory and advancement to the quarter finals of England’s second cup competition was secure for the stopper and his teammates.
“I’m over the moon with my performance and the team performance. Through into the next round and it’s massive because the boys won [the League Cup] last season, so everyone wants to carry on and defend the trophy and at Wembley again.”
Wednesday’s victory sees the Reds on to the quarter finals of the competition, with another trip to the south coast, this time for an away date at Southampton, confirmed for the week of December 16th following the final international break of 2024.
Whether that game sees Jaroš start again will likely depend on if Alisson is back to full fitness at that stage, but regardless if Liverpool do successfully defend their League Cup title he will have earned his medal with Wednesday’s contributions.
