The Uruguayan striker scored what would be the winning goal against Aston Villa, giving Liverpool a 5 point lead at the top of the Premier League table. He cautions that the Reds need to stay grounded despite the hot start to the season.

Liverpool continued their sensational start under Arne Slot on Saturday, defeating Aston Villa 2-0. Mercurial striker Darwin Núñez finished off a sensational sequence, starting with defending a corner and ending with the Uruguayan racing onto the ball after Mohamed Salah was brought down on the counter and driving the ball past Emi Martinez with a fantastic finish.

After the match, Darwin expressed his joy of earning minutes and contributing again to a goal involvement. He also might just be in a good mood after using his goal celebration to announce that his partner is pregnant with their second child together.

“At this moment, I feel happy to have minutes, happy to score another goal for Liverpool. I think we did a good job defensively, and attacking I think we were good too. I feel happy, as I said – happy for the team that we have been doing things well and that is showing when we play.”

While there is plenty of joy to go around with Liverpool’s form and place in the table, Darwin said that the squad need to keep their feet on the ground and head out of the clouds. The Reds sit atop the Premier League and Champions League tables entering the November international break, but there is a long way left to go before the squad can say they have won anything.

“We have to continue working, with our feet on the ground. We haven’t won anything yet and there’s a lot left to do.”

“As I always say, I’m focused here on Liverpool, we don’t look outwards. We have to continue working with our feet on the ground.”

“And hopefully in the end of the season [we can reach] the goal and we can celebrate it with the people, so that they are the ones who have to celebrate with us the most.”
