Dominik Szoboszlai Agent Reacts to Real Madrid Transfer Talk
Last year, Liverpool fans got to enjoy the slow motion train-wreck that Trent Alexander-Arnold’s decision to join Real Madrid on a free transfer. This season started off with a similar story unfolding around Ibrahima Konaté. Or at least it did up until the player’s form dipped and the La Liga side apparently moved on.
Now that Konaté doesn’t seem likely to end up there despite an expiring Liverpool contract, then, there’s a need to link another top performer from the club, so over the past week or so there have begun to be links between Dominik Szoboszlai and Madrid. His agent, though, is dismissive of such talk. At least for now.
“It’s completely normal for the public, when Dominik is performing like this, to talk about what’s next and if there’s something higher,” agent Matyas Esterhazy noted this week. “For us it’s not a topic. We are mid-season—he has a lot of work ahead of him in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.
“He has said many times how important this competition is for him, so to talk about what will happen in the summer in my opinion is not correct. Not to mention, Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world and Dominik is in a good position within the team, so we are not looking outside or elsewhere.”
It is perhaps not an entirely categorical rejection of the chatter, framing offseason decisions as, well, decisions for the offseason rather than ruling out a move entirely. The future, though, is never entirely certain and there’s at least a fair dose of such in saying the player and agent aren’t looking outside or elsewhere.
Szoboszlai currently has two years left on his contract, which would make the next few months a natural time to renew his deal—or, if a new contract proves impossible, to make the difficult decision to either sell while value is at its peak or to hold the player before likely allowing him to eventually leave on a free.
