Liverpool 2-3 West Brom: Player Ratings

Liverpool crashed out of the FA Cup in frustrating fashion on Saturday night, with a 3-2 home loss to West Brom.

Klopp’s Reds didn’t look quite at it all game, and will now most likely have to wait another year before having a realistic shot at long awaited silverware.

Player Ratings

Simon Mignolet – 5
Maybe it’s harsh to criticise him for some of the goals. Ultimately wasn’t help by the shambolic defending around him. Was still bullied at times in and around his penalty area.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 5
Overcommitted in the buildup to the first West Brom goal. Tried to create in attack from the right hand side, but his distribution was often poor.

Joel Matip – 3
The worst Liverpool defender in what was a shambolic defensive performance on the whole. Also scored an own goal for West Brom’s third, and found it very difficult in the first half to contain various West Brom attackers.

Virgil van Dijk – 4.5
Part of a collective defensive meltdown in the first half, that saw the visitors’ hit three goals without response. Failed to take control of proceedings defensively.

Alberto Moreno – 5
Didn’t create as much in attack as he has done in previous games. The Spaniard struggled down the left side on his return to the team, and can also be called out for his poor marking before the second visitors’ goal.

Emre Can – 4
Taking the captain’s armband for this game, Can struggled to take control of the game from midfield. Looked fairly sloppy throughout, and his overcommitment also helped the buildup to the second West Brom goal.

Georginio Wijnaldum – 4
It was another game where the Dutchman failed to make his mark in midfield. He looked fairly lost throughout, and was also caught out in the buildup to the first West Brom goal.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 4
Struggled to really influence the game as he would’ve liked too. Looked very lost in what was an awful first half for Liverpool.

Sadio Mané – 5
Still doesn’t look sharp enough, despite some strong performances in recent weeks against the likes of Man City. Struggled to use the width and create any clear cut opportunities.

Mohamed Salah – 7
Continued to try and make things happen. Eventually got his opportunity and netted his 25th goal of the season in front of the Kop.

Roberto Firmino – 7
Took his goal brilliantly. An excellent piece of skill to chip foster. Misses the penalty soon after, however, which turned out to be costly.

Subs

James Milner (65) – 5
Made very little impact on the team and the performance.

Danny Ings (65) – 6.5
Looked impressive when he came on. Worked hard to make things happen and create chances in and around the box. May now be ahead of Dominic Solanke in the pecking order.

Jordan Henderson (65) – 6
A mixed performance from the Liverpool captain. Tried to make things happen, but lacked sharpness and that key quality ball that the team so desperately needed.
