This weekend, the Kop will welcome back a revered friend in the shape of Rafa Benitez and his struggling Newcastle side. Currently sitting only two points above the relegation zone (where there is currently a 3-way tie in terms of points at 16th place), and fresh off a match wherein Newcastle squandered a two-goal lead to drop two crucial points to Bournemouth, things are not well for the Tyneside squad.
Liverpool, on the other hand, are riding high after strong back-to-back performances against Porto and West Ham United, with an eye to securing another notch towards their quest to lock-up another season of Champions League football. 3 points will definitely be the expectation, but Jurgen’s boys should be on the look out as Newcastle did manage to surprise United at St. James’ Park in mid-February.
Projected Liverpool Lineup (4-3-3)
Karius; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Can, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Salah, Firmino, Mané
Nathaniel Clyne is on the mend but is not quite ready to feature, making him the only notable long-term absence remaining in the Reds physio room. Mild knocks to Milner and recovery from mild illness for Wijnaldum and Woodburn portend a small bit of rotation in midfield. Jurgen indicated that team captain Jordan Henderson is ready to feature and with the mid-week Champions League tilt against Porto at Anfield, we expect him to get a run out. Rotation and returns is the name of the game for our boys this week.
