Thomas Lemar: “I’m Open To All Offers”

The France international spoke about his regret that a move to the Premier League didn’t reveal itself over two transfer windows.

Regrets, I’ve had a few. But then again, too few to mention. If Thomas Lemar had it his way, it’s sounds like he would have been playing in Liverpool red this season. But that’s not how things shook out last summer when it seemed like AS Monaco were willing to let the France international leave but slapped an eye-watering transfer fee on the player that resulted in Jürgen Klopp leaving the deal on the table.

Liverpool claimed that their interest in Lemar was over and we all moved on. Well, not all of us. Okay, not any of us moved on from hoping a deal could still be worked out between the clubs. Lemar didn’t move on, either. The letdown of staying put in France after a smorgasbord of high-profile articles suggesting an imminent high-profile deal was in the works has motivated the player to kick on this season in France, ensuring those high-profile eyes remain on him when the transfer window opens again.

“Regrets? Maybe,” said Lemar. “I’m not going to hide it, I was a little disappointed.

“Once it’s over, it’s over, so I try not to think about it.

“I’ve kept working so that these clubs come back during the next transfer window.

“I’m open to all offers. I am a football player, I like football. I do not close any door.”

We don’t know Liverpool’s stance with regards to Thomas Lemar. The club has said that they are not pursuing the player but Liverpool were also forced to claim their interest in Virgil van Dijk had waned after some shenanigans were uncovered and tsked at by Southampton and the FA.

Arsenal were also said to be interested in Lemar last summer but it seems that no concrete offers were submitted to Monaco and the player stayed put. Lemar’s list of suitors now includes Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich.

Thomas Lemar is an exciting attacking player that by most appearances seems a strong fit for Jürgen Klopp’s side. The 22-year-old also has his career ahead of him and is primed for some of that good old-fashioned Klopp coaching to raise his level. But ultimately Klopp will have his final say on the deal and that’s that.

The upside to the story is that really good players are talking about Liverpool again. Really good players are disappointed that Liverpool didn’t make a move for them. And regardless of Lemar’s eventual relocation, really good players will be joining this Liverpool team over the summer.
