Cristiano Ronaldo Picks up Minor Knock Before Champions League Final

Obviously we all wish him a speedy recovery. Obviously.

Clearly we at The Liverpool Offside would never wish an injury on any rival player, certainly not one such as Cristiano Ronaldo. In case you haven’t heard of him, Cristiano Ronaldo is a footballer who plays for Real Madrid. He is quite an important player for them, in fact, such that he has been the driving force behind their last three European titles in four years. And again, in case you missed it, Real Madrid are to play Liverpool in this season’s Champions League final. Easy to forget, I know.

Poor Cristiano has some good news, however, with his manager Zinedine Zidane downplaying the severity of the injury. “He’s not great right now but I think it’s going to be a small thing, it was only a bad movement”, Sky Sports report Zidane as saying. “I can’t say how long he’ll be out for, tomorrow he’ll have a scan, but I think it’ll be a small thing for him. He seemed to think it wasn’t much.

“It’s not a worry for the Champions League final...we’re all going to be there”.

Realistically it would take being run over by a train to stop Cristiano Ronaldo from starting against Liverpool in Kyiv on the 26th May. It is unquestionably the biggest game of the season, and this is the stage where the Portuguese loves to deliver. Nonetheless, being fit enough to get onto the pitch is not the same thing as being fit enough to deliver at one’s highest level. Since being put straight back into the Tottenham team following an ankle injury, we have recently seen Harry Kane struggle to deliver his best form as he appears far from 100% fit.

There is currently no way of knowing the extent to Cristiano Ronaldo’s injury. He may well be back by next weekend and find himself at full performance for the final. Trying to gage the fitness levels of top athletes from the outside is far from an exact science, and he obviously has access to some of the best doctors in the world. Until we know more, all of us at The Liverpool Offside wish Cristiano a speedy recovery. Obviously.
